The Spanish name for adult male alpacas is macho. If they have been castrated, they are known as wethers.
We keep our entire and castrated males together.
We haven’t had any bullying problems, maybe because the boys have plenty of space and enough to do.

Cairndinnis Archie born 19th July 2005
Archie was Bethany’s second cria and her first for us. Archie’s sire is Livanti Brooklyn, and his grand-sire is the well-regarded Bozedown Alonso.
He has a crimpy, bright, dense and fine white fleece with distinctive markings - he has brown freckles along his back, brown toes and brown marks on his face and muzzle.
He is friendly and bold although well-mannered and reliable. He particularly enjoys going exploring on the halter. He isn’t the fastest thinking alpaca but he is very sweet ! Archie is a favourite at Haddington Farmers’ Market and everywhere else we take him !

Purston Pride of Place
Pride of Place was bred by David Barnett at Purston Alpacas from Chilean import parents, Purston Legacy and Purston Pink Champagne..
Pride of Place was himself born in September 2002. He was Champion Junior Male at the BAS Championship Show at the Royal Show in 2003 beating all the whites in his age-group. His first fleece was 18.5u and he has retained fineness as well as having super crimp, and softness.
Pride of Place lives up to his name with his lovely bearing and great temperament. His cria are all solid in colour with white, fawns and browns.
Cairndinnis Enoch born 25th May 2009
Enoch is almost a clone of his sire, our own Purston Pride of Place. He is well-grown with plenty of bone. He is a very steady and unflappable young alpaca. His fleece is mid fawn in colour and has good softness and fineness.
He is named, in a round about sort of a way, after Enoch who lived on Traprain Law with King Loth in ancient times. Don’t worry that St Enoch was a woman - our Enoch is definitely a boy and he has lots of presence.
His 2010 fleece, shorn at 11½ months has been analysed at The Fibre Lab. He has an AFD of 19.6um, an SD of 4.0um, CV of 20.3% and a Comfort Factor of 99.1%. Added to his fleece’s lovely handle, correct conformation and lovely nature, Enoch has stud potential and we’ll be looking forward to watching him develop.

Livanti Harlequin
Harlequin is our new Stud Male and we are very happy to have his genetics and his potential within our herd. He was bred by Liz Barlow and is a son of ATA Cambridge Centurion, a grandson of Shaft’s Dream of Arunvale and great-grandson of Arunvale Denzel. Between them, these three black males have sired very nearly 500 BAS-registered cria 60% of which are Solid Black, 15% Dark Brown and 12% Mid Brown.
Harlequin himself has a fine fleece on a well-shaped frame. His fleece is consistent across his blanket and has a good soft handle. He is unproven as yet but is VERY keen to get to work.
He is currently at Beacon Alpacas in North Yorkshire with Jacki Barlow. He will be coming here to Cairndinnis in late June.
